Hellhounds (2009)

A Movie Review by Stefan Birgir Stefans

In ancient Greece, a princess is killed by poison and her warrior fiancée must go down to Hades and save her soul before the hellhounds eat her. It’s very easy to get to Hades. You just go down a volcano and then bribe the dude who runs the boat TAXI on the river Styx with water.

The film follows the warrior and his multi accented team of comrades as they go through a maze of brick walls, deserted landscapes and hellscapes. One of them, the bad one who obviously poisoned the princess, is captured and tortured by a demonic dude.

The demonic dude is interesting because it’s just a dude with some fake teeth and wounds, but I’m almost certain that they made the wounds and sometimes teeth CGI instead of just, you know, makeup. Hey looks bad.

Everything looks bad. It’s a low budget TV movie set in ancient Greece and Hades. Of course it looks bad.

Out of all of the 28 films in SyFy’s Maneater series, this one has the loosest connection to “maneaters.” The hellhounds are an afterthought here, not the film’s monsters. They also look like crap like everything else.
