Bloodlust: Subspecies III (1994)

A Movie Review by Stefan Birgir Stefans

Continuing right after the final scene in Bloodstone: Subspecies II (1993), Bloodlust: Subspecies III continues the story of Michelle, the hero-turned-vampire, her sister Rebecca, and the evil vampire Radu. Radu, now with an evil more animated (literally) shadow, gets help from his mummy dearest to recapture Michelle in his plan to make her his mate.

Meanwhile, Rebecca desperately tries to find Rebecca again, with the help from a handsome man from the American embassy and a Romanian police detective. The duality of Michelle as a human and a vampire causes her character conflict like in the first film, as Radu hypes up her vampirism while Rebecca reminds her of her humanity.

Bloodlust: Subspecies III (1994)

Both Bloodstone and Bloodlust were shot back-to-back, so the same vibe and atmosphere continues here. A mix of gothic Hemmer feel blended with late 80s/early 90s horror. I can’t quite describe what makes these Subspecies films work. They are, in a way, comforting, cozy. They aren’t slow but they aren’t quick paced either. The characters are all likeable, the effects are good, the monsters are scary. It just works.
