Tara Reid is not a good actress is probably the least controversial statement one can make. Her lack of ability works best when she is in an ensemble of similarly talented actors. Vipers offers us that ensemble. They aren’t all bad. Corbin Bersen is always solid and the dude that portrayed Dana Scully’s dad is fine. Most are real bad, though.
A bunch of thieves try to stela cancer curing CGI snakes, but the snakes escape and terrorize a small town by attacking and killing people with their snakey ways. It’s kind of like Arachnophobia but spiders are tiny and hard to catch (and see). These vipers are loud, and I would think that a bunch of Americans in a small town would just, you know, shoot them.
There are a lot of poorly written character dramas to be found here. Tara grows pot and a girl who is somehow related to a guy that died in Afghanistan, I think, and Tara is somehow responsible and then there is a love story. It’s not interesting.
What is interesting is that the company that engineered these viperous snakes decides to just gas the whole town in an airstrike. The townspeople know of the plan and are trying to kill the snakes to get them to cancel the airstrike.
The company is not the government, it’s a company. At no point does anyone suggest that maybe they should call the authorities or the media and let them know a private company is going to commit an act of war on US (or Canadian, probably) soil.
No, they decide to get the company to stop their plan by destroying the vipers, and these are B-movie snakes, they multiply like crazy.
It’s just so stupid.
