A giant crocodile is going around eating people in Thailand, shocking the local monkey population and to lesser extent, the football playing elephants. Our protagonist teams up with a fired animal welfare officer and a croc hunter to kill the beast before it kills them.
Our protagonist is Croc Hawkings. A crocodile breeder who owns a small zoo that some bad mofos are trying to shut down because they want the land his zoo is on. They send an animal welfare officer to try to close the zoo down, and when that doesn’t work, they break in and release some of his crocodiles, who are then blamed for the killings the big crocodile is doing. It’s a whole thing.
Most of the films in the Maneater collection are shot in Canada, so Taiwan is a breath of fresh air when it comes to setting for the series. It’s also a breath of fresh air that most of the shots of the crocodile is an actual crocodile, not just poor CGI. There are also a few poor CGI shots of the creature.
The “we want your land” plot is uninteresting, but then the film takes a turn into Anaconda territory when Michael Madsen shows up and makes it a bit more interesting. Then the other plot takes over again. All in all, pretty boring.
