Cigarette smoking man knows that climate change is causing bad things to happen, and his kids are not happy that he is doing research and not taking his meds. He explains that older cultures, like the Mayans, believed that if humanity was destroying earth, an outside force, like a monster, would come and destroy humanity. “Are you crazy?” he is asked. We don’t know. Well, we do, the movie is called Behemoth.
The first hour or so of the flick is about gases being released from fissures because of seismic activity. The ground is also warming up. The love interest wants to evacuate the town, her uncle, the sheriff, doesn’t agree. Then he agrees and the town is educated. Thrilling stuff.
There are like eight characters in the film. Cigarette smoking man, his son “bland white guy” and his daughter, “bland white girl.” A guy who knows something is up, the love interests of the siblings, the sheriff and a waitress that is friendly with cigarette smoking man. None of them is interesting. Most of them spend a lot of time on the mountain, while CSM and the waitress are in a diner that collapses into the earth while staying in one piece.
In regard to the behemoth, we mostly see a tentacle of it but then it finally shows up in full and it’s literally the size of a giant ass mountain. “It is the mountain,” the bland white guy proclaims. Still, it pursues our protagonists like it would give a damn about some ant sized creatures.
A painstakingly boring and uninteresting flick.
